Mood Disorders

A mood disorder is a mental health class that we use to broadly describe all types of depression and bipolar disorders. The primary and most common mood disorders that we treat are:

Bipolar I Disorder
Bipolar II Disorder
Major Depressive Disorder
Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia)
Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder

Signs of a mood disorder can be:

Irritability, aggression, or hostility
An ongoing sad, empty or anxious mood
Changes in appetite or weight
Changes in sleep patterns
Difficulty concentrating

If you are suffering from any of these symptoms, we urge you to give our office a call. A mood disorder is not your fault, and it is treatable. Though there is no clear cause of mood disorders, there is evidence to support that it is due to a chemical imbalance in the brain. Treatment may include, the administration of antidepressants and mood-stabilizing medicine, as well as psychotherapy – most often cognitive-behavioral and/or interpersonal therapy.
